It has been rightly quoted by Mark Twain, “India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most artistic materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only! “
Then why is India still a developing country and what is the hindrance in calling India a developed nation? Ever wondered, ever contemplated ? The answer is simple but rather a shame, it is the prevalent education system. India’s education system acts as a stumbling block towards its objective of achieving inclusive growth.
We the youth are the torch bearers for a better and prosperous India and our prime focus should be on the education system. Education is indeed not the preparation for life , it is life itself and therefore the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world. Education is the birthright of every child born and not just the wealthy. The critical problem in the education system is its low quality especially in the government schools where with poor quality there is weak infrastructure and inadequate pedagogic attention.
Earnest measures have to be taken to improve the quality of education.
Elementary education should be given foremost attention because the blooming buds of today would be the blossomed flowers of tomorrow. Child labor should be made illegal so that the child isn’t deprived of his prerogative of going to school.
Amendments should be made in the existing policies and the seeds of education should be planted in both the rural and less privileged sub urban areas. The dark clouds of poverty still overcast our society ad therefore affordability to education becomes an obstacle. For the same the government of India should introduce schemes to provide free elementary education to the low socio economic strata of the society. Teachers in the government schools are not well qualified and therefore not well paid and in turn not willing to work hard and thus this has been a classical catch 22 problem the government should fight against to improve the quality of education.
More emphasis should be given to practical knowledge rather than theoretical data because it is the application that matters and not factual science. 
Most importantly the perspective of an individual should change as education is not all about alphabets ,numbers or equations it is also about throwing lights on other arenas of livelihood. Training should be rendered to hone the vocational skills as not every child born can be a scientist or a doctor.
From the voice of a dentist, It is seen over the last 5-6 decades that dental education programs have grown tremendously in India and we the budding dentists should eradicate the challenges to dental education. Dentistry should become a passion rather not an alternative when medical education couldn’t be procured. We should be trained to bridge the theory application gap and taught comprehensive treatment planning, follow up care and patient management skills. The clinics should be well equipped with basic facilities to create a conducive environment for learning. Above all dental education and oral health care should be delivered to masses and not just a particular sector of the society. Most importantly ethical practice should be our motive. Thus dentistry in India is at crossroads with several challenges and today we need to start making realistic changes with a vision of ensuring adequate and affordable oral health care delivery throughout our country in addition to creation of good clinicians and teachers capable of taking dentistry to further heights.
Therefore our vision demands change because unless India stands up to the world , no one will respect us. In this world fear has no place. Only strength respects strength.
Thus we the present generation should stand united to make education our strength rather than our weakness. Today we are like an island of excellence floating in a sea of mediocrity but our tomorrow deserves an ocean ofprogress and education is the strongest ship that can help us sail through it.
