Support The People Suffering From TB, They Fight Depression Too

Saurabh Rane was diagnosed with tb when he was very young. He is now a fitness trainer, a doctor and a marathoner.

Survivors Against TB (SATB) – a community led movement aimed at strengthening India’s fight against TB, today, launched a series titled “Talking TB” – a set of video message logs to address India’s TB epidemic. The series will carry messages from TB survivors, Members of Parliament (MPs), national and international experts and public health specialists on key issues around TB.

“Talking TB is an attempt to start a conversation on TB that includes everyone. For too long, the conversation on TB has been dominated only by doctors and experts. It’s time to broaden the discussion and include everyone to hear their perspectives”, says Chapal Mehra, who conceptualised “Talking TB” and is Convenor of SATB.

Check this video message by Saurabh Rane, a 24-year-old doctor and fitness enthusiast who battled Extremely Drug Resistant TB (XDR-TB). He focuses on depression and side- effects of TB medication. “Most of us are not aware that TB treatment has extreme side-effects and depression is common among the patients. We need support from family, friends and the community we live in”, he says.
