This is to bring you in notice that DTH service providers (TATA Sky -in my case) are applying multiple ways to trick their customers and take advantages in many ways. It is important for us to reckon their devious activities and pass new laws or revise some to conquer the wrongful acts and implement a better business conduct.
I have few valid and very reasonable points to be considered w.r.t. consumer awareness and benefits. I’d request you to give it your kind attention.
1.) As the consumers pay rental on “daily” basis (e.g. Rs. 9/- per day), it should be changed to on “hourly” basis.
There should be a provision (or a button in remote) to notify that the consumer is not using the service for a particular period of time and hence the money shall not be deducted from his account.
Similarly, when the consumer starts using the DTH services, the provider can hence start changing the money.
2.) The liberty of creating channel packs should be given to the consumers.
Where the service providers may offer them to choose the segment; such as a pack of 100 channels in Rs. 0.18 per hour. The right to customise the channels in that segment shall be fully given to the consumers only.
3.) Compensation to consumers for ‘No Service’ on hourly basis. Lifetime warranty for service & maintenance.
In case of “No service” from the service provider except for ‘the natural causes’, appropriate waiver shall be raised and passed to the consumer. Service and maintenance shall be covered under lifetime warranty.
4.) Relocation to other city shall be free of cost and ownership of accessories exchanged among consumers.
In case of “relocation” to another city, service providers shall remove dish antenna, cable and other accessories and take it into their possession. Later a new service request shall be generated to the provider for consumer’s new address and installation shall be done with another set of accessories with minimal charges.
Apparantly it is very difficult for a consumer to carry the components together while travelling to another city.
5.) Consumers shall be given the liberty of “DTH Portability” to another service provider if they are not satisfied.
Initial cost of buying a new connection is really very high and for this, in general, a consumer suffers a lot with his present situation if he is not satisfied and willing to switch to a better network.
The service provider in this case may have the luxury of taking accessories back into their possession and refunding the total amount to the consumer.
Or, may all the providers make a “unified set of accessories”, so that only the “Smart Card” has to be changed in case of portability.
