CultureCultural habits or lifestyle have an effect on education like no other. And what the cultural difference has the most effect on is the atmosphere of the classroom. It can be very beneficial for the classroom or it can be an utter disaster, it all depends on the teacher and how they interpret the changes in the cultural behavior of different children. Teacher’s need to be well versed about the basic differences across cultures. They should be trained about this, making things easier for the institute and especially for the classroom. Students from different cultural background have different ways of expressing themselves. Let us look at a few examples, A European student will always tend to be more active in class and participate readily in activities. He will readily make eye contact because according to his cultural background, this is a sign of respect.

An Asian child will tend to be quieter and seemingly more introvert. He won’t participate in a lot of in class activities and will keep his contact with others to a minimum at first, He might gradually come around but there is a possibility that he might not. He will never make eye contact and that is his way of showing respect. A Hispanic student will be shy in nature and not speak at all most of the times in class. He will stay quiet and learn. To Hispanic student’s, hierarchy is very important, and according to what they believe, the teacher has the highest authority and will always show it too. The parents for the Asian and the European students have somewhat different approach to dealing with classrooms and teachers. A European parent will engage in the class and take part in activities, they will familiarize themselves with the going-ons of the class and will actively take part in discussion about their kids current work or future activities.

An Asian parent might not participate in the activities or volunteer for work, but they do tend to be very detail oriented about their children’s work. They might seem like they are agreeing with everything which they are, but they will pick up things they have an issue with and discuss it with the teacher. They will not praise their child openly. Hispanic parent will always agree with what the teacher says. They won’t have a lot of questions. In order to deal with a multicultural classroom the teacher needs to develop a sense and understanding of how people from other cultures behave in different scenarios. This sense and understanding needs to be strong because what the child learns and is put through at this stage in their life, it affects them for life. If a child is scolded for not interacting in class or not asking questions just because they are inherently unable to do so, this would change their whole thought process and psychology.

Chances are that it might not encourage them to be more interactive in class, plus increase the social anxiety that was just a part of their blooming stage. It might scare them for life however there are some academic writing companies to provide them cheap dissertation writing services to come over these scares. And this is not just for younger kids. Even higher education level students can be affected by these actions. It will affect the way they look at the world and treat people from other cultural backgrounds. Apart from all the cautions and details about a multicultural classroom, there are so many positive things that can be extracted. The most obvious one being the fact that students will learn so much more about other cultural. They can learn from other students and develop a sense of wonder and respect for other cultures.

For younger kids, it helps them understand what other cultures are and how they differ from their own. And how to understand and accept the differences that they pose. They would realize that there is world beyond their own and these other parts of the world people live differently. There can be so many different activities that can be planned for just the different cultures. There can be a day when everyone gets to describe their language. You can ask the kids to read a story in their language and translate it for others. A much better option would be to ask for a folk story, that would allow for a more dynamic cultural exchange. There can be a cultural dress up day, as well as a cultural food exchange day when everyone can bring a cultural food item to show or share with others. So many different exchanges can be made to make the children understand what exactly a culture is and how other cultures can differ from theirs, and that it’s ok too if someone has a different way of living.

It does not turn them into an outcast. These kinds of exchanges can encourage peace and harmony among different cultures and reduce plagues like racism from our community and eventually from our country and our planet. It is such a huge learning experience for children and they will not learn it properly until it is conducted with practical examples. This will be their basic training on cultures. Adults from higher education can also make advantage of multicultural classroom. They can be very quick meeting and interaction which will give them an idea about how other cultures wok. It might also lessen the racism and bigotry that others have or feel about different culture.

So by the time you are done with the higher education and go out into the world, you already know how people from different cultures react and behave. It will be much easier to cope with it now that you know what they mean when they exhibit their cultural differences. So overall, a multi-culture classroom will have an interesting and educational blend of learning and experiencing something that’s otherwise not that easily available to experience. Something that you might have to experience only if you are in another country. So classrooms and teacher should benefit from this and encourage a multicultural class room.
