Let’s Stand Out!

You think it’s easy, to step out from the crowd in a male dominated world?

Control over their own futures, over their own bodies has been something that patriarchy has perpetually denied woman, not only in India – But all over the world.

I’m a daughter, a wife, a lawyer and a passionate entrepreneur who is expected to give her 100% in every role and cope with by adroitly balancing several activities. I am not alone, I’m sure most of the women in the world have a similar story to tell.

Coming from a legal background, I was not only aware of the laws, but also my social responsibilities and duties, so I made it a point to improve the employment of rural artisans that handspin the cotton yarn to weave it into a fabric; a great portion of whom are rural women – Thereby leading to the empowerment and social upliftment of women in our country.

I’m a woman entrepreneur who started her business in July 2016 with an investment of Rupees One Lakhs. Entrepreneurship is a long, laborious road with the risk of failure stalking you at every turn – And investing this huge amount in starting is something which used to haunt me of failure. But because of the blessings of my friends, the team’s hard work – I introduced my company through a launch event in a span of just three months (October 2016) !

I now own an E-Commerce site IWEARKHADI. I have a Facebook page and an Instagram account by the name of ‘I Wear Khadi’ for a regular interaction with the customers; and one more Instagram account by the name of ‘Simplicity In Khadi’ which is basically an update to day-to-day activities taking place! With the continuous efforts I’ve been able to establish a good name for my company.

“But, Life isn’t made to be easy. It is made to see how successful you can be!”

The journey of any startup begins with not just an idea, but also zeal to bring a change. The success of it though, comes from a deep understanding and analysis of the goals and objectives of it while keeping it’s relevance in the contemporary world, in mind. With an aim to restore the seemingly long lost love for Khadi and to inspire the youth to adopt khadi in their daily lifestyle, I Wear Khadi is playing a pivotal role in connecting the designers and khadi lovers, while making sure that the weavers and spinners get a greater share!

Thousands of people in this country have launched small startups to lead an independent life. There are so many talented women who’s work is horribly slighted in this male-dominated society.

Here at I Wear Khadi, we have a team of women working together for the future of the country fighting against this patriarchal society – And also, touching the skies of Success.

“Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you’ll stand out.” – Anita Roddick.

Nothing could be truer for the women entrepreneurs of today who are chartering unknown territories unabashedly and fearlessly.

We have come a long way from the days when the primary responsibility of women was taking care of house, rearing kids and cooking for everyone. Women have given wings to their dreams, conquered great heights, learnt to multi-task, keeping their family and professional requirements in mind. They have shattered the glass ceiling and it makes me very proud to be a part of this revolution!

“Before cutting off a women’s wings –Don’t forget they can fly higher than you!” Kanika Sukhwani.
