Sexual Harassment At Workplace

There are no bars now in the world which can quantify men and women in terms of their work. Though we say and try giving equal importance to both of them at work but we still lack doing it and I don’t think anyone would deny that fact. Who is the weak thread here? Men or Women? No second thoughts on this folks, of course, we think its women.

When we talk harassing someone sexually it does not just mean touching them or getting physical with them, it also means commenting on someone’s looks and not works at the place where all of we work, which I don’t think is an appropriate place to do so. Not just cases of founder –Anurabh Kumar or what happened with the lady working in UBER comes up but in corporate, media; Bollywood round the world sexual harassment is the issue, not just for women for men also.

WHY and WHAT actions are taken on this kind of cases. We as audience term as cases but the one suffering from the situation know it well what they are going through. If we put light on UBER case where the lady was harassed according to her blog and HR didn’t take any step towards it and rather just told her to change her department so that company’s reputation can be saved. This is how companies take care of their employees. Why Roger Ailes had to resign from Fox Star and what was the result. Whatever the results were, you would be surprised to know 20 other women turned up saying they were also sexually harassed by the same person.

One in three women claims they are been sexually harassed at the workplace and in fact you would be surprised to know in Tech industry majority of the women are sexually assaulted. Talking about the recent case of Mr. Kumar founder of The viral fever whose shows inspire to respect women and given equal importance to be found doing something fishy at workplace according to the girl who has given the statement against him. So, this is how big celebrities and companies who inspire people around the world to come in news and many also encourage someone who follows such people.

Not just in corporate, in Bollywood industry also some of the celebs like Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin, Anoushka Shankar, Sofia Hayat, have revealed that they were also faced sexual harassment when they were in their childhood which is really shocking.

When there are laws for such activities, why there are no actions while such incidents take place. To protect the image or organization? According, to a report 70% of the people don’t even report about such incidents because once getting into such kind of cases can cause harm to their career they believe, but I don’t think someone self-image should be degraded so much that one cannot take steps for such brutal activities and others can take advantage of it. Once done and not taken any actions, the culprit will try to do it again with you. It becomes an advantage for an organization and not to spoil their brand image in market but I believe if companies start firing people who do such harassment with their employees the can become one of those companies for which every employee will willing to come and join them which increases the chances of them getting great talent from market.

Not just at workplace folks if done in your childhood also take steps regarding it. Talk to your close ones and make sure it does not happen with someone else. Someone else should not suffer the kind of pain you had gone through and the culprit should be given punishments as per all the rules and regulations. No one can assault another individual according to their wish and whims and rule one’s life. All you need to do is SPEAK. Men or Women have equal rights to speak up in public if sexually assaulted. Though we have fewer cases of sexual harassment with men which gives us a number of 21% and women of 79% that doesn’t mean they (MEN) don’t suffer from the same feeling. In interviews, at the workplace, they are also asked for sex if they want a job or want to grow in life in regards to their career. Surprisingly, 66.6% of the workforce are not even aware of the policy of sexual harassment in their company and don’t report for the same choosing not to damage their workplace image. It is rightly said at work legs should not be appreciated instead work should be. The more you keep quite the more culprits will be encouraged to do the same activity with you with others. So now you have to decide if you will be the inspiration for others taking a step and voicing your voice against someone trying to abuse you and others sexually or you will be one of the thread to encourage such people to do more with you and others.
