This populist step of newly CM of state Yogi Adityanath again drags him to new controversy. But, Apart from criticism this step is praising by majority of state citizens. Anti – Romeo squad was the cornerstone of BJP campaign in UP and unprecedented victory of BJP in UP signified that affirmation of UP voters to this step. In UP , where rape case was 30 per million (CMIE,2015) that rose from 7 per million in 2005, this audacious action is a “must”. The decimated law and order situation in UP is also a matter of grave concern. Recently,happened tragedy ,when a dalit girl was forced to drink acid while she was traveling from train manifest the situation of law and order. Subsequent to this , Home minister Rajnath singh said , “There is no need to fear psychosis. It’s BJP goverment in UP and it’s just 2 days.” The modus- operandi of anti – romeo squad was a point of criticism , specially moral policing. Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan said , “It is ridicule democracy and freedom of the young.”On this concern , Adityanath directs principle secretary to prepare and issue a guide regarding the formation and functioning of such squads. To improve this collapsed law and order and to curb goondism and eve- teasing , these types of action are quintessential.
