Baahubali 2 Fans And Critics: Time To Get Your Facts Right

While I am yet to watch ‘Baahubali-2: The Conclusion’ (watching it on 3rd May), I am sure more than the film or its content, there is a bigger entertainment going on in Social Media, thanks to some ‘die hard (but brain-dead) fans and the ‘fans’ of these ‘fans’ and so on.

Section-A: To all those people taking the ‘Reel’ wars in ‘Baahubali-2’ too seriously…and going (in ‘Real’ world) to great lengths in making/claiming the huge Box office collections of ‘Baahubali-2’ a symbolism of victory of ‘Tollywood over Bollywood’, ‘Prabhas over Karan-promoted-Khans’ or even bigger ‘Hindu over Muslim’; I really appreciate your comments/views which (unintentionally) is entertaining millions including all ‘woods’. But relax a bit and read this piece. After all, you too deserve some entertainment.

Just in case, you care for logic/facts, here are some:

1) Hindi Version of ‘Baahubali-2’, as you may not know, is being distributed by ‘Dharma Productions’ (headed by Karan Johar). And as told by Karan sir in many of his interviews, ‘Baahubali-2’ is full of Bollywood masala, which is one of the primary reasons he went ahead for buying the distribution rights of Hindi version.

And yes, the huge no of screens ‘Baahubali-2’ has got in India and abroad, is because of the influence ‘Dharma Productions’ have in Indian/Global film distribution network. Film industry doesn’t care about ‘wood’, as they are making films not ‘paper’.

2) In case you consider the writer-director of a film as its true maker, then for your info ‘PK’ was written by the famous combo ‘Abhijat Joshi-Raj Kumar Hirani’ and directed by ‘Raj Kumar Hirani’. Both the writers are Hindu. If you consider the producer of a film to be its true maker, then it was ‘Vidhu Vinod Chopra’; Hindu again. And if you consider a film to be a team work, then ‘PK’ involved 100s of cast and crew members who from various religions (Hindu, Christian, Sikh etc). But if you think that a film is made by the lead actor/protagonist alone, then probably you should google with keyword ‘Basics of filmmaking’.

And moreover going by your logic, if respecting a religion decides the Box office collections of a film in India/Abroad, then probably ‘Christianity’ is the most respected religion everywhere, cause as per statistics, maximum no of Hollywood films are being made by ‘Christian’ casts, crews, filmmakers, producers, aren’t they?

3) Please decide which side you want to take for ‘Karan Johar’. If you want to go/speak/write against him because he is promoting ‘Khans’, then sorry to say, incidentally he is distributing and promoting ‘Baahubali’ franchise too, leaving you completely confused. 🙂 So basically, you don’t have any choice this time other than supporting his move.

Section-2: To those ‘self-made’ critics who did not like ‘Baahubali-2’ because they did not find any of the characters, settings, situations in the film ‘relatable’, ‘realistic’ or ‘connectable’.

My only question to you is: Did you find the ‘the characters, settings, situations’ in Hollywood films like ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘The Hobbit’, ‘300’ etc highly relatable? If your answer is yes, then kindly ask your brain to reanalyse your issue with ‘Baahubali’ and you will easily get the answer. If your answer is ‘No’, then kindly learn the fact that all the above movies including ‘Baahubali’ fall under one specific genre of film called ‘Fantasy film’, which by definition is ‘not about reality, but about imagination’.
