Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal,
In this letter, I neither want to blame you nor defame you but, I sincerely ask for your help in resolving a very serious issue that I, and all other residents of my area are facing for the past six months now.
I am a resident of Wazir Nagar, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi, and about six months back, a nuisance made its way to our locality. A liquor shop was given license and was allowed to operate right in the middle of the residential area. Now, I am not sure if you are aware of this, but I am certain you could get the hell that it has created for the residents of the area.
How do you expect a woman to step out of her house, with drunk people all around leering at her? How do you expect the children, specially the girls, to play in a street full of drunkards? What do the children, waiting near the liquor shop for their school buses, learn? I am sure you would not like to live in such an area, would you?
This is not the first time that we are raising this concern. We have contacted the local MLA, Madan Lal, but got no response. Even held an agitation, that was well covered by the media but it died a natural death. The Mohalla Sabha (literally, the locality council) you so famously support, was never allowed to be formed in our locality.
I tried contacting you and Madan Lal several times over Twitter as well, hoping against hope that some action would be taken. Finally, we had to give it up when the liquor shop goons started threatening people with dire consequences. Several cars were damaged and their windshields broken overnight as a repercussion of us raising our voice against the shop.
Consequently, no one wants to come out and speak, understandably, everyone is concerned about their family’s safety, including my parents. I had heard such kind of gundaraj (rule of the thugs) in neighboring UP, but never in my worst nightmare did I imagine that it would take place in Delhi.
I don’t want this to become an election agenda, and that is one of the main reasons I did not write this letter before the Punjab elections. All I want is for you to just imagine your family being in the same position as ours. You are the elected representative of our state and have taken an oath to serve us to the best of your abilities. If you believe this to be a reasonable request, kindly help us shutdown this liquor shop, and end our nightmare.
