From 20th to 30th of April 2017, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Café de Art, G-14, Marina Arcade, Connaught Place, Outer Circle. New Delhi 110001, there is an exhibition of modern art “From Creative Destruction to Destructive Creation“, which explores themes very close to women’s issues. The artist, a renascence man, Dr. Sukant Khurana, is a noted neuroscientist, mathematician, writer, design scientist, and data scientist, in addition to being one of the visual art masters born in South Asia. Dr. Khurana has worked on women’s issues for almost all his education and advanced scientific training in the United States, organizing funding for NGOs that are working against domestic violence, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for women education and has penned several newspaper articles about the lack of gender equality in India. In fact, one of the oldest paintings on display, a 24-year-old work, from age of when the artist was 13, is called expulsion, where a man is throwing a woman out of her home due to societal pressures and the helpless woman is walking away. In another work “Freshly Frozen Fish” made in Long Island, New York, in 2013, the artist explores a woman’s perspective in how most young men view relationship. In addition to the painting exhibition, a movie crew lead by Mr. Sharat Kaul, called Art House Media Productions would be conducting first of its kind social experiment, recording people’s responses from 20th to 24th April to the art of Dr. Khurana. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to be a part of this movie titled “What’s the fuss about Sukant Khurana’s art?” by going and asking questions about art. This art form is also unique, as the name suggests, some of the works are made of several layers, where one layer hides another in the form of creative destruction and in other each layer, washed immediately after painting adds up to total painting in form of destructive creation. His unique form of art has been called a “New Synthesis” and heralded as ushering in a new era of modern art. The artwork makes a very interesting journey from suffering to power and emancipation, mirroring themes encountered by women. It is broken into three parts- Fake Smiles, Circling While, and Breaking Free. Because the themes cut across gender boundaries and the artist wanted perspective from both genders, the Circling While part of the exhibition has also appeared in form of painting works (different than ones exhibited in Delhi) being juxtaposed with the poetry of Luisa Scott, a noted American neuroscientist and poetess.
