Students of ‘Basic Shiksha Parishad’ school in Jagdishpura locality of the city are forced to sit on a lane next to the school building to learn their lessons as the structure is in a dilapidated state and has not roof. Teachers said the school the school building is unsafe and they thought it prudent to take classes in the open as the students at least get to sit in the shade of a wall in this hot season.
Teachers said to me that students often complaints about suffering from dehydration, vomiting, and other problems as it is very hot outside. And because of the hot weather, the number of the students has also gone down drastically.
As per my sources there are more than three schools running under sky are as Upper Primary and Primary School in Jagdishpura Naraini building, Balak Vidhyalay in Jagdishpura, Primary School in Radha Nagar of Balkeshwar, and another school in Gobar Chowki locality.
When I asked about the same to one of the students, Saumya Goswami (12-years-old), a class 8th student at Junior High school in Jagdishpura locality informed me, “We are not able to concentrate because the sun rays falls on us directly an dalso because of the extreme hot weather condition.”
Another student Annu Kumari of class 8th said that most of the students feel sick, while studying in the open. She added, “Many of the students keep water bottles, and regularly fanning ourselves with textbooks. But some students also complaints about feeling unwell and teacher instruct us to take rest,” she added.
After talking to students, I talked to head teacher in the school, Keerti Dubey, she informed that teachers are bound to take classes on a street next to the school, as school building is unsafe and there is no roof. “There are 43 students in my school. Because of the crumbling infrastructure in the school, parents want to get their children transferred to other schools having proper facility. One student has already taken a transfer,” she added.

(Pic By: Punit Lal)A teacher at primary school in Radha Nagar in Balkeshwar locality, Madhu Rani complained that due to this problem every year the number of students was going down at this school as school has no structure. School runs on an open plot, she added.
“There is no classroom, no toilet and no drinking water facility. Parents raised objections and aks us that there should be proper classroom, toilet and water facility for the students. Even they also avoid sending their kids to school because of such reasons,” she added.
Dolly Kumari, a student of class fourth shared that how difficult to sit in the heat daily. She added, “I and my other classmates sit on the ground under the sky in rising temperature. Even we also face many other problems like there is no toilet, no drinking water facility.”
However, when I contacted AD Basic Girijesh Chaudhary he told me that the department has been looking for the new building on rent so that these schools can be shifted there. “We have also carried out a drive to search rented buildings for the schools, but did not get. But now when we will get the building on rent schools will be shifted after that,” he added.
