Project Misaal- Making Every Waste Bottle Count! Enactus Delhi School Of EconomicS

Ever thought that a plastic bottle could make up your next favourite t-shirt? Yes. A T-SHIRT! Or the beer bottle you dumped last night could be right there on your table, like a designer lamp? 

Ever thought that the plastic and glass waste, which otherwise seems like a destroyer, could actually be a creator?

A creator of employment. A creator of EMPOWERMENT?

YES! That is exactly what the team of students at Enactus Delhi School of Economics, Department of Commerce. are trying to do. Transform every last waste plastic/glass bottle into a source of livelihood for the denied and underprivileged. An initiative of the Department of Commerce, University of Delhi,  Enactus DSE DOC is a student run chapter of Enactus Worldwide, a network of graduate and post graduate students present in 36 countries and working towards the empowerment of marginalised communities and developing a sustainable future.

Project Misaal, started in August 2016 is their flagship project whereby they have combined two issues-  women empowerment and waste management ,into an enterprise that generates revenue for underprivileged, unemployed women. Plastic can be recycled into many forms, some of which can be rendered useful, if only utilised at the right time and for the right objective. Project Misaal intends to cross this intellectual divide and transform the problem into solution by changing the durable useful life span of plastic from one form to another.

 With Project Misaal, they have recycled over 20,000 waste plastic bottles and up cycled hundreds of waste glass bottles collected from cafes, restaurants, events and the university campus into items of daily use such as lamps, flower vases, pen holders, mufflers and even clothes! Last winter, they distributed blankets made out of recycled plastic among the underprivileged and came out with a muffler range. They sell the designed products to generate revenue for their master creators, a bunch of unemployed women from the Yamuna Basti with an annual family income of LESS THAN 20,000 Rupees.

Currently selling these products both online (www.facebook.com/enactusdsedoc) and offline in Connaught Place in the form of a Sunday Store, their next plan is to set up a store  plastic donation and collection centres and establish a firm footing for these women with a dream.
