Scores of female students of University of Kashmir were barred inside their hostels on Tuesday after they tried to hold a peaceful protest in the campus over the excesses of government forces on the students.
Students told Youth Ki Awaaz over phone that they were locked-up by the authorities in their hostels.
“We asked the authorities that we will hold a peaceful protest inside the campus against the muscular force used by the security forces on the student in the valley, but they didn’t allowed us,” said Ishrat Bhat, the student who was leading the protest adding “In afternoon, we held a peaceful protest outside Allama Iqbal Library by breaking down three locks of the gate”
Bhat said that the protest was in solidarity with the students of the Kashmir.
“We condemn the atrocities on the students at S P School Srinagar and Government Degree College Pulwama by the security forces. They want to break our will but we will not let it happen,” she said.
Reports said that the students marched from Habba Khatoon hostel to Iqbal Library and were chanting anti-India and pro-freedom slogans.
Earlier, the students also held a protest on Monday under the banner of Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) over the harassment of the students at the hands of the security forces.
Meanwhile, all the Universities, colleges and higher secondary schools today remained closed across Kashmir on the orders of the divisional administration in view of the widespread student protests in the valley.
Chief Proctor University of Kashmir, Naseer Iqbal termed the allegations of ‘locking down of female students’ at hostel as baseless.
“In view of precautionary measure and the tense situation outside, we didn’t allowed the students to protest. But later somehow they held a peaceful protest inside the campus,” Iqbal said. “But let me clear that we didn’t locked them at the hostel,” he added.
