Since childhood we have been feeded and trained to worship cow as ‘Mata’. Worshipping cows is something we have acquired in our dna codings from our ancestors. Reasonable explanation like use of milk and pastrol products and cowdung for fule provided by cows has been always the hilighted points given by bovine lovers. Cow is believed to be a scared animal and slaughtering or consuming her meat is categorised as a sinful act.
It’s all about a confusion !
1) India ranks fifth in terms of production of beef and first in exporting beef. But people tend to get confused between cow and Buffalo meat which is called carabeef in th global market. But as per the guidelines india is the no. One exporter because USAD includes Buffalo meat under the category of beef. So you can say that the word ‘Beef’ used here is a misnomer.
2) In india 24 out of 29 states have adapted the law for cow slaughtering as a punishable offence, while states like west bengal, kerela and other southern states doesn’t allow such prohibition or conviction. In some states cows can be slaughtered only after issuing a certificate of ‘Fit-for- slaughtering’ by goverment.
Legislation for slaughtering –
Although prevention of killing of cattles is mentioned in the Constitution, but it is under the heading ‘Directive principles of stayed policy’ which means that it’s mere a suggestion but not a law. Thus there is no central law regulating and monitoring the slaughtering of cattles, but as I mentioned above, several states have their own followed law. The maximum term of imprisonment varies from 6 months to 5 years and the fine from 1000 to 10,000.
Note: Section 4 and 7 (according to law) of the prevention of killing of cattles act says about the reliance of implementation of the act on the vetenary office and not the POLICE or any pseudo self appointed gaurakshks gangs. A certificate of approval is assurance after fathoming the investigation by the officer is needed to prove the accuse guilty.
VERIFYING SOME FACTS :
We are always shunned down by giving the stake of religious beliefs,books and vedas, whenever we try to put up some questions against these ancient barbaric rituals. Let’s have a look at our hindu scriptures-
*Manusmriti chapter 5 verse 30:* “It is not sinful to eat meat of eatable animals,for god has created both the eaters and the eatables”.
*Apastanaba grishsutram (1/3/10):* says “The cow should be slaughtered on the arrival of the guest, on the occasion of shraaddha of ancestors and on the occasion of marriage”.
*Rigveda (10/85/13):* declares “On the occasion of a girls marriage, oxen and cows are slaughtered”.
*Rigveda (6/17/1):* states that “God indra used to eat the meat of cow, calfs, oxen and horses”.
*Vashishtha dharmasutra (11/34):* says “If a bhramin refuses to eat the meat offered to him on the occasion of shraaddha, he goes to hell”.
*Hinduism greatest propagator swami vivekanand said thus:* You’ll be surprised to know that according to ancient hindu rites and rituals, a man cannot be a good hindu who doesn’t eat beef”.
*”The book The history and culture of the indian people” published by bhartiya vidya bhawan, bombay and edited by renowned historian RC majumdar ( vol 2, page 18 says):* This is said in the mahabharata that “king Ratindra used to kill 2000 animals in addition with 2000 cows daily in order to donate meat as Charity”.
Much hypocrisy of illiterate sanghies.
Closure-
A country with mostly blind religious believers and with such a big population is likely to have collision of different views among country fellows. Taking in account the current scenario where people are being lynched by mobs and goons disguised as gaurakshks, it’s a necessity to look for an amicibale solution for this issues ASAP. As I always say, the point of discussion is not to impose your views on other but to gather all the points, comment,angles and find the best possible answer for onself.
Now it’s up to us, whether we want to support secularism by respecting each other’s food habits or we want to politicalize and scandalize this issue costing innocent lives on the name of religion.
