On May 21, Dalits from western Uttar Pradesh were in Delhi to protest against the violence at Saharanpur and also the increasing atrocities being inflicted on Dalits all over the country. This protest took place in the wake of the violent clashes between members of the Dalit and Thakur community in early May.
The protests were led by the Dalit group Bhim Army in Jantar Mantar on Sunday. According to members of the Bhim Army, around 20,000 people gathered to protest in Jantar Mantar. However, according to the Delhi Police, there were approximately 10,000 people.
