Concept & Construction of Middle Class

In Indian context Middle class is a term, which is not often clear with standard definition. Renowned academician, Satish Deshpande claims to be nonexistence of such class in the society. The availability of numerical strength on income level of this class is not supportive for recognition of Middle class.

However, performing activities like agriculture, small business occupation, and small shop owners are not claimable as Middle class if income generation varies. If we consider States during the Nehruvian period, Middle class performed a very active role in imposing their demands with greater values because of concerns to people at large. Also, such peoples are majority in employment with state dependent.
In political arena it is assume that, issues like infrastructure, transport and communication and electricity are demands by Middle class but not by lower and upper class. Thus poverty and hunger issues are not prioritized during any election period and middle class are considered as important player of vote bank politics.
