Daily Wager’s Son, Who Nearly Quit School, Is A Topper In Rajasthan Board Exams

The son of a daily wage worker in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, who was struggling to pay the fees for his school, has emerged as one of the top scorers in the Class 12 exams of the Rajasthan Board, —– reported. The results were announced on Monday.

17-year-old Amit Kumar scored 98.2 percent marks in the exam, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Kumar scored a perfect 100 in Chemistry and Mathematics and 97 in Physics.

Surendra Singh, the father of the student, said that he started working as a daily wage worker because he was unable to support and educate his children through his agricultural income.

A director of a private school supported the student when he learnt about Kumar’s dedication. The student was considering quitting school as his father was struggling to pay fees for his education.

“I was admitted by Pramod Singh in his school and the hostel where I studied and stayed free of cost,” Kumar said. Pramod Singh said that when he saw that the student had scored 94 percent in his Class 10 examination, he decided to help him.

Kumar studied at a government school in Peepla village in the district until the eighth standard and then joined a private school in Bharatpur city. He cycled 13 km every day to travel to his school.

Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation, a CSR initiative for rural development by the pharmaceutical company Lupin Ltd., will support the student for higher education. Sitaram Gupta, the director of the foundation, commended the student’s success amidst a lack of facilities.

The student’s younger brother is presently pursuing a BTech course from a government-run engineering college in Bharatpur. Kumar now aspires to be an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
