Facts Of Indian Olympics

FACTS OF INDIAN OLYMPICS

The modern Olympic Games or Olympics are leading international sporting events featuring summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes          from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games             are considered the world’s foremost sports competition with more than 200 nations participating. The Olympic Games are held every four years, with the summer and                    Winter Games alternating by occurring every four years but two years apart.
Over 13,000 athletes compete at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in 33 different sports and nearly 400 events. The first, second, and third-place finishers in each event receive Olympic medals gold, silver, and bronze, respectively.

In the last 120 years India has only won 28 medals in the Olympic history .In the last three decades it has won one gold medal for men’s 10meters rifle in 2008. In London 2012 Olympics India got 6 medals. In Rio 2016 Olympics India got only 2 medals.

The world’s second most populous country like India deserves more than this….

India has been able to produce one of the greatest batsmen like SACHIN TENDULKAR but it is not able to produce great athletes in history

So, why isn’t India getting medals in Olympics?????

Undoubtedly it is money……

At an average US government spends 22 Rs for an athlete per day.

Coming to Jamaica it spends 19 Paisa for an athlete per day.

Our government spends only 3 Paisa for an athlete per day.

India despite of reaching many heights in space programming (like RLV-TD, Mars mission)and many new inventions related to space, but is not able to spend money on sports persons and its budget is way below the line coming to sports.

Now moving into sports persons in India,Keshavan, he was the only Indian to qualify the winter Olympics 2014.India did not pay keshavan’s travelling charges to Sochi (a city in Russia).so the charges were paid by crowd funding.

There were no luge (type of equipment used for snow race) facilities in India. so he fixed the wheels to the bottom of the sledge and practiced on Himalayan roads. At a point in his life he thought that he could not sustain his career in sporting, because there was no financial support.

Now coming to the life of Dipa karmakar, she is the only women to qualify the Olympics finals in gymnastics, she is always been a performer of produnova, famously known as vault of death.

At the beginning they had no equipment for vaulting platforms so they used 8 to 10 crash mats. They used second hand springs and shock absorbers from discarded scooters for making a thing like spring board, there are only five of them who have nailed it. Produnva is the most dangerous vault. Even a single mistake may result in death, so Dipa karmakar is risking her life to do this dangerous vault. But after she was qualified for Rio Olympics in 2016 the funds started to flow in. After that she received a pocket money of 1500$ per month from may to august.

The coach of Dipa karmakar says that she has always been very much interested in doing dangerous vaults and she is very eager to learn new things. Also in an interview he said that “THE PROBLEM WITH INDIA IS THAT YOU HAVE TO FIRST PROVE YOURSELVES WHAT YOU ARE AND THEN HELP COMES TO YOU AUTOMATICALLY”

It means that funds will only come to you when you show what you are capable of.

There is no encouragement for children at the base levels. Sports were never a priority for the majority of parents. It is just a time pass activity or recreational purpose or making our body fit for our parents.

There is a proverb in Hindi “KHELOGE KUDOGE THO HONGE KHARAB, PADHOGE LIKOGE THO BANOGE NAWAB” which means that if you play your life will be laid in vain but if you read and write you will be the hero of life.

I totally oppose it because if they win a medal the person will be hero of the country. So, we ask the future generations what they want to become, a hero of life or hero of the country?????. A sportsman is a person who can make our country much more proud.
