Madhumita Verma is among the artists whose work are listed for display at Desi Canvas in the traveling exhibition the Drifting Canvas.
Ashish: What is the story behind the artist?
Madhumita Verma: I started this journey in school where I got many opportunities to participate in art competitions and feel extremely blessed that every competition paved a way to success for me even though we never had art as a subject in the school. I have a yearning to explore possibilities in mediums where I could experiment in third-dimensional forms, and I joined Delhi College of Arts as an under graduate in the Department of Sculpture.
I am very fond of doing ink drawing. I have a special place of birds, animal, and nature in my heart. I love to do experiment with different medium; I have worked in terracotta, metal, fiber glass, wire Plaster of Paris and wood, Mix medium etc.
My uncle Mr. “Ravindra Verma” has a big role in my life who gave me the direction in the field of art. He is my role model.
Ashish: What inspires you to put your energy into art?
Madhumita Verma: Inspiration comes from within and surroundings.
I feel “Life is a circus, full of entertainment, mystery, emotions, and challenges”, and the world is a platform where human are trying to perform well according to their strength, capability and capacity, to achieve goal in holistic and materialist world they are taking challenges in life, changing emotions as per the situation in surroundings. I could not stop myself without sharing these lines from “Aanand” movie.

Ashish: What material you use?
Madhumita Verma: Medium has an important role in the expression of art. I use metal, fiber glass, wire Plaster of Paris and wood etc. according to my expressions
Ashish: How have you evolved as an artist?
Madhumita Verma: My journey was very challenging but interesting for me, I have started my career as an Art Educator, along with my art work. Initially it was difficult for me to handle both the things but now it is manageable for me.
From Delhi College of Arts I have my works in the collection of D.D.A, and several private (including that of Shankho Chaudhary) and govt. collections. In 2003 I have done an outdoor sculpture for D.D.A, which is displayed under the Wazipur depot. flyover, Delhi, this was a big achievement for me.
Ashish: As an artist do you think needs to be done in order to reach out to more people?
Madhumita Verma: Exhibition, Workshop and discussion on art
Ashish: Is art limited in to some classes in India?
Madhumita Verma: Yes, art limited in to some classes in India May be people are not much aware about art.
