A Mother With a Harsh Heart

Friends, the main aim of this poem is to spread awareness about the importance of saving the girl child. Here, I discuss the current problems girls are facing these days because of female foeticide and how we can face and contribute to stop this cruel practice. This poem is in respond to a mother’s heartless act of throwing her baby girl in dustbins- discarding her as a piece of torn rag.

Watery cushion cuddling her she thrives

her limbs grow at a silent natural pace.

Closed are her eyes and  tiny her ears

yet fully aware of life and its vibrations.

She doesn’t know the pangs of hunger

Her tiny pouch is filled without asking

she kicks gently and coos silently

She is tenderly modeled, perfectly modeled

wet and glistening like a pearl in an oyster

created by God and is a magic in a mother’s womb.

The magic is gone the day is born

she seems a load too heavy

Even to that woman who bore her for months.

Reasons are varied, the results is the same

she is left to the earth and winds

By the mother who proceeds nonchalantly

To bear only sons.

Are such women just mothers or man making machines?

Women so heartless to finch at a girl

but don’t mind bleeding and dying for the pride called son.

Let’s such unwomanly women, these uncouth men

Break down, vanish and get annihilated

Heralding and welcoming the birth of a girl child!

Into a safe and halcyon where girls of any colour, race

And are received with joy, triumph and grace!

Hail and happiness oh you girl child

Welcome, welcome and welcome again!
