National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC).
CBSE UGC NET is a national level exam conducted two times in a year i.e. in January and July month to determine the eligibility of Indian candidates for Junior Research Fellowship and for Assistant Professor or for both.

CBSE UGC NET Examination Eligibility Criteria
CBSE UGC NET Eligibility criteria is define in two main aspects given below:
- Education Qualification
- Age Limits
Education Qualification required for UGC NET:
To appear in the UGC NET exam the education qualification below mentioned should be fulfill:
- General Category Candidates – 55% aggregate in Master’s Degree or Equivalent Degree.
- ST/SC/OBC/ PWD Candidates – 50% aggregate in Master’s Degree.
- The appearing candidates of final year are also eligible to apply for the examination (provided they have to qualify the examination before awarding the post).
- Those candidates will get 5% relaxation in aggregate marks whose master’s degree was completed by 19th September 1991.
- The candidates can apply for UGC NET Exam only for the subject in which they have completed their Master’s Degree and in case the subject is not in the list they may apply for the related subject.
- The candidates must have passed their PG Degree from well recognized Universities and Colleges.
- The candidates belonging to the OBC, ST/SC category or PWD, are required to submit attested copy of the category certificate along
Age Limits to Apply for UGC NET:
- The candidates who are applying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship must not age more than 28 years.
- There are not such upper age limit criteria for Assistant Professors.
Age Relaxation
- 5 years’ age relaxation will be provided to candidates belonging to OBC, ST, SC, PWD.
- 5 years’ age relaxation will be provided to Women Applicants.
- Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years.
- 3 Years Relaxation in Age will be provided to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree.

Difference between CSIR NET & CBSE UGC NET

CSIR and UGC are two different governmental departments and both conduct their respective NET entrance exam. The former is conducted for the Science stream, whereas the latter is conducted for all the other streams called as CBSE UGC NET.
