GENDER BENDER 2017: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

After the overwhelming response from artists and the public to our earlier editions of Gender Bender, Sandbox Collective and Goethe-Institut Bangalore, Bangalore present Gender Bender 2017. The Ladies Finger is back onboard to co- curate it.

Gender Bender 2017 invites artists and others working in the field of the arts to send entries for projects that take a fresh, innovative and new look at notions of gender or approach questions or issues of gender with ingenuity and imagination.

You can be angry, ranty, funny, serious, obsessed with numbers, want to talk big picture, want to examine a narrow canvas, all good. Convince us that you have something more to say than what has already been explored.

Projects could include fiction or non-fiction writing, poetry, film, theatre, music, visual arts, photography, installations, drawings, dance, or a mix of media and artistic forms. Feel free to explore forms that are not included in this list. The idea that you propose should lead to a new work. Do remember that the work will need to be performed, screened or exhibited for an audience.

Deadline for submission of applications is 15 June, 2017.

An independent panel comprising eminent individuals in the arts will select the projects to be supported. Applicants will be informed of the decision by 1 July, 2017.

The selected projects will be presented in Bangalore between 23 and 27 August, 2017.

All selected applicants will receive a grant (minimum of INR 10,000 and maximum of INR 30,000) towards the creation of their work. However, the amount granted will be at the discretion of the panel.
