GM mustard regulation controversy : All you need to know about it.

Today,Agriculture and farmers are in news for their ill-condition and their protest for the loan waivering. All prime time shows are debating or telecasting the impact and causes of loan waivering and farmer crisis. In the shadow of these issues , the pending regulation of GM mustard crops is sidelined by mainstream media and publisher house as they did always.

Right now the regulation of GM mustard is pending in India because of its harmful effects on the environment. The prime rationale said by so-called environmentalist is that it will harms the nectar producing fauna specially bees. As per anti-GM activist GM mustard will decrease the 30-40% formation of nectar. This will indirectly effect the production of bee honey and bee wax ,which will be the hole in the pockets of apiculture sector.

On the contrary of that, University of agricultural Science (Karnataka) said that no such effects will happen with GM crops. In 2002 same controversy was rose with the regulation of BT-cotton . Many anti-GM activist claimed that widespread cultivation of cotton hybrids contain genes derived from Bacillus thuringenesis soil bacterium would hugely reduced population. Of pollinators.

But,Such impact has not seen yet. In 2016-17, BT-cotton covers the 10.6million hectare but no such harmful effect is seen yet.

This pending decision will be a life changing decision for farmers and agriculture of India. Now , this will have to be seen how much  technology will hone the traditional farming.
