Government Breaks Silence on Netaji Mystery

  1. In response to an RTI filed by Sayak Sen, the Government has finally come out of the cover of diplomacy and stated, “After considering the reports of Shah Nawaz Khan, Justice G.D Khosla Commission and Justice Mukherjee Commission of Enquiry, the Government has come to the conclusion that Netaji had died in the plane crash on 18.8.1945.” However, the Justice Mukherjee Commission of Enquiry had always opposed the plane crash angle and had gone to the extent of stating that it was a hoax. In fact, Kiren Rijiju very recently stated in the Parliament that a conclusion to the death mystery can’t be drawn so soon.
Netaji’s family has expressed its displeasure over the response. ‘This is an irresponsible move…How can the government conclude Netaji’s death without concrete evidence?’ asked Netaji’s grandnephew and Bengal BJP Vice President Chandra Kumar Bose. ‘Mukherjee Commission clearly stated that Netaji did not die in the plane crash and went to China and Russia. Congress rejected the Mukherjee Commission report on political grounds’, he added.
Sayak Sen says that he is shocked. ‘Had the Government reached a conclusion, then why this process of declassifying files to know what happened to Netaji?’, asked Sen. ‘We were fighting to know the truth because there is no conclusive evidence of his death in plane crash.’
