Inspiration Comes From Our Surrounding: Meenu Verma

 

Meenu Verma’s works were part of the theme “Textures” at *Desi Canvas*. In an Email conversation, we get a glimpse of the artist in her:

Ashish: What is the story behind you becoming an artist?
Meenu Verma: I have done my Masters from Delhi College of Art 2015 in sculpture, I have been awarded, in my second and third years of college, I got an award in an annual college exhibition. I was the gold medalist.

I am working on “Growth”. I feel growth continues process if surroundings are helping and supportive, different things has different style of birth like some plant start to grow through seeds, stem etc. some creatures born through egg, some born without seed, egg etc. and their growth is dependent on the environment, emotions, feeling, challenges etc. I have expressed different way of growth through the forms and elements. I am trying to manage to transform emotions, traditional style in an artistic language, thus creating a beautiful fusion.

Ashish: What inspires you to put your energy into arts?
Meenu Verma:
Inspiration comes from surrounding.

I feel art is a language where we have many ways to express our emotion, feelings. It is a good way to communicate with the people.

Ashish: What material you use?
Meenu Verma:
Medium has an important role in the expression of art, and selection of medium according to the expressions of art for me. According to work I use glass, nail, iron, metal, different pigments etc.

I have used Nail as a medium- nail can hurt someone, it can fix things or repair, in my composition, I am showing the challenges of human growth. Human is growing differently according to their environment.

Ashish: Who is your favorite artist?
Meenu Verma:
Some of my favorite artists are Young Deok, Ramkinker Baij, Dhanraj Bhagat, P. Poochkhanwala style of their work always inspired me because the form of work was very impressive even some of them linear form depicts rhythm in works.

Ashish: As an artist do you think needs to be done in order to reach out to more people?
Meenu Verma:
Exhibition, Workshop, and discussion on art

Ashish: Is art limited to some classes in India?
Meenu Verma:
Yes, art limited into some classes in India Maybe people are not much aware of art.
