Kumbhalgarh, one of the World Heritage Sites in Rajasthan, is located 1100 metres above sea level in Aravali range of mountains. Maharana Kumbha of Mewar constructed this fort in middle of 15th century. A long and thick 36 kms jig jag wall passing through 13 mountain terrains encloses the fort. The wall is the 2nd longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China. The thick running wall along the mountain slope with bastions in the shape of kumbhs gives it the feeling of invincibility. The fort remained invincible from various attacks by Ahmed Shah of Gujarat, Mahmud Khilji of Malwa, etc. Forces sent by Akbar conquered it in late 16th century.
