Medium Plays an important role in art: Neha Verma

Artist Neha Verma’s works were part of the theme “Textures” at ‘Desi Canvas’. In an Email conversation, she talks about her journey as an artist:

Ashish: What is the story behind you becoming an artist?
Neha Verma:
I was a bright kid in my childhood; I was quite good in painting since my school days, and participated in many art completions and won prizes. I grew up in the artistic background I didn’t know when it’s become my passion. To continue my passion & learn more possibilities in field of sculpture, I have joined Delhi College of Arts where I did M.F.A and B.F.A

Ashish: What inspires you to put your energy into arts?
Neha Verma:
I feel “Human and Nature” are very similar and I am trying to show similarity in both through the form of arts. As human feel different emotions, Rasa- Hasya, Rudra, Karuna, Viyoga, Shant etc. throughout their life, nature feels the same- through different seasons like Spring- Ptjda.

“Kon Kahta Hai, Alag Hai Manav Aur Prakriti
Mahsoos Karte Hai Bhavo Ko Dono Hi,
Manav Karta Hai Abhiyakt,
To Mahsoos Karati Hai Prakriti Bhi”

Ashish: What material you use?
Neha Verma:
Medium has an important role in the expression of art. I worked in conventional and un- conventional medium, but like to experiment with unconventional medium. Presently I am working with copper wire and iron rods.

Ashish: Who is your favorite artist?
Neha Verma:
Because I love to experiment with the medium, I like Picasso, Antony Gormley, Naum Gabo and in modern Indian artist Ramkinker Baij he not only was able to input the indigenous content into the sculptures but also experimented with un- conventional material such as concrete, gravel, and cement.

Ashish: As an artist do you think needs to be done in order to reach out to more people?
Neha Verma:
Exhibition, Workshop, and discussion on art

Ashish: Is art limited to some classes in India?
Neha Verma:
Yes, art limited into some classes in India Maybe people are not much aware of art.
