PATIENCE IN ISLAMIC PROSPECTIVE

Patience is a Latin word which in Latin pronounce Patientia which means “the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.” But my point is not to let you understand the meaning of this word but to give you a small demonstration of this word and how it is important is anyone life.

Today According to World Health Organisation suicide rate for the world as a whole is 11.6 per 100,000. About 800000 people commit suicide worldwide every year, of these 135,000 (17%) are residents of India, a nation with 17.5% of world population and most shocking thing is 80% of the suicide victims were literate, higher than the national average literacy rate of 74%.

According to A report of NDTV on  Dec 12, 2016  over 1,37,000 people were killed in road accidents in 2013 alone, that is more than the number of people killed in all our wars put together. There is one death every four minutes due to a road accident in India.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, In 2014 11,667 cases of divorce were filed in Mumbai, 8,347 divorce cases were filed in Kolkata and about 2,000 cases were filed in Lucknow family court.

According to World Prison Brief (WPB),In 2015 about 401,789 men and 17,834 women total 419,623 with occupy rate is 114.4% were in prison.

So if we see all these issues then we can easily find that they all have one thing similar and that is patience. So to understand these things more clearly let’s talk about a man who himself is the best example of patience.

About some 1,447 year ago, On Monday, the twelfth day of lunar month, Rabiul Awwal a Man born on the surface on this earth, his Grandfather gave him the name “MUHAMMAD” but before his birth his father “Abdullah” died in Yathrib on the way of Syria.

Time passes and Muhammad ﷺ grown up and become a child of age 6 years old and visited Medina with his mother to see his father final resting place. For the first he got to understand that he was a child without a father. It was first day when he was unhappy.

After spending a month, Amina(mother of Muhammad ﷺ ) decided to  return to Makkah. Like his husband Amina too took ill on the way. A village named Abwaa lies between Makkah and Madina there her condition become more serious  and she died on a hill of Abwaa and was buried there itself .Abdullah(His father) had died in a foreign land and buried there, far away from their people and now her mother also died in the same condition.

Muhammad ﷺ is now an Orphan. He was devoid of the father’s love. When he understands the meaning of being orphan his mother also departs. After burying her Umme Aiman try to take Muhammad ﷺ back to Makkah but Muhammad ﷺ  run up to the hill and hold the grave of his mother and says “Ammi ,you knew I had nobody to care except you. Where did you go leaving me”. The pain and sorrow of the child can still be felt.

Umme Aiman took him back to Makkah where his grandfather who was the head of his clan took the responsibility to nourish and protect this child. He loved him so much that he let him sit on his cushioned seat.

But after 2 years, he also passed away and it was a big blow for Muhammad because at the age of 8 years he almost lost everyone whom he love .It was more painful for him than the death of his mother because now he is at that stage when he has started to understand the true meaning of love and care.

So here is the point for us to understand that this if kind of calamity can happen with a prophet Muhammad ﷺ then who we are??

Time passes and he ﷺ grow and now he is at the age of 40 and become a the final Prophet, I have left so many things and I highly apologize but I am just writing the things which is needed for this article so if you are interested to know more about him then buy a book name “MUHAMMAD (P.B.H.U)”The Guide of Mankind By Dr. M.E Asad Subhani and read it .

After the Death of his Mother and Grandfather, his Uncle Abu Talib took him in his protection and he too loved him so much. He protected him from the enemies till the time of his death. Most of the enemies were from their own families but they fear that if they accept his message and follow him then they will lose their kingdom and the whole Arabs will stand against them but even then his uncle who himself didn’t embrace Islam but still support and protect him from every evil

He married women named Khadijah when he was 25 years. Khadijah was the very first woman in the whole world to declare that God was one, and Muhammad was His Messenger to all mankind. The honor and glory of being the First Believer in the whole world is hers to all eternity. She had sacrificed her comfort, her wealth, and her home for Islam. She gave up all her wealth, all the servant just to stand by her husband and his clan, and to share the bitters of life with them.

When he was 50 years old his uncle Abu Talib left him with so many enemies around him, his death was a strong shock for him because he was not only who grew him up after the death of his mother and grandfather but also when he became a prophet and the whole city stand against him he was one stand by his side the protect him from evil eyes, but something more painful is going to come, just after some 35 days of Abu Talib’s Death his wife Khadijah also passed in the holy month of Ramadan at the age of 65. It was 10th year of the Prophet-hood and one of the most difficult years so far. Muhammad ﷺ used to be restless and concerned. He used to say that this year is year of sorrow and grief by his words we cannot feel the pains he must have felt because words can never elaborate the feelings so we can’t what he must have felt during those days.

So Normally we know that the children bury their parents when they died but he ﷺ has the Man who buried 6 of his children’s out of 7,what more painful can be to bury his own children by his own hand. Today if parents lose their one child, they remain disturbed for so many year but he ﷺ took the pains but with the patience.

So now let ask a question with ourselves that is there any of these problem in our life??I hope no but indeed we are ungrateful, we are never satisfied whatever we have, we still wanted more and that is the reason of depression and suicide. So now let’s see what is his ﷺ opinion about being patience?

Narrated Anan bin Malik: The Prophet (peace be upon him) passed by a woman who was weeping beside a grave. He told her to fear Allah and be patient. She said to him, “Go away, for you have not been afflicted with a calamity like mine.” And she did not recognize him. Then she was informed that he was the Prophet. So she went to the house of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and there she did not find any guard. Then she said to him, “I did not recognize you.” He said, “Verily, the patience is at the first stroke of a calamity”. Sahih Al-Bukhari – Book 23 Hadith 372

So you might think how can a story of a Man about 1400 years ago will help the problems of this generation, verily if you read them with full concentration then you will find that from the day he was born, calamities attacks him but he never loses his hope and by passing time his family members and his whole clan became his enemy but he never lose his patience, they torture him and try to kill him but kept telling them about obeying One God ALLAH.

Once Muhammad ﷺ visited the 3 chieftains of the clan of Taif separately, and placed before each of them the message of Allah, and called upon them to stand by his Prophet’s ﷺ side.

Instead of accepting his message, they refused even to listen to him, treating him with the most contemptuous and rude manner. They plainly told him that they didn’t like his stay in their town.

Muhammad ﷺ, who was a rock of steadfastness and perseverance, did not lose heart over them and tried to approach the common people, but nobody wanted to listen to him. Instead they asked him to clear off from their town and go wherever else he liked. When He ﷺ realized efforts being made mean nothing, he decided to leave but they wouldn’t let him depart in peace, rather they set the street urchins after him, to hiss, to hoot, to jeer at and to stone him. He was so much pelted at with stones that his whole body was covered with blood, and his shoes were clogged to his feet. Muhammad ﷺ left the town in this woeful plight.

So it’s not good to lose hope easily because we don’t know what tomorrow will bring for us, we don’t know maybe tomorrow morning we will be full of hope and happiness but if we have little bit of patience today.

What will happen if we tolerate your husband/wife?? Maybe tomorrow they get changed. What will happen if we forgive the people who harm us maybe tomorrow they will only save us? What will happen today I fight with my ego and feelings bit more maybe tomorrow brings everything bursting with happiness.

Most of his great companions were his greatest enemies of the time, some of them even killed his beloved friends and relatives but still he ﷺkept patience and with the passage of time they all took Sahadah and join his clan and free themselves from the slavery of this world.

Remember if that man had not shown such patience during that period then maybe today around 1.6 billion Muslims living in world wouldn’t have known this. Today in whole world Muslims follows him and send salutation upon him.
