Tree-to-Teach Campaign, a Paradigm Shift in Environment Education

Samtulya Paryavaran Siksha Prasar Kendra initiated a very simple initiative “Tree-to-Teach” in schools & colleges in remote urban & rural agglomerations of Dhemaji District in Assam from 2013. SPSPK introduced this T2T initiative by encouraging mass-plantation drive in school/college campus or community ground on some eminent symbolic days likewise World Environment Day, Earth Day, Wetlands Day etc. with the gesture to be cared & nurtured by school students/guardians/teachers. Recently we received these pictures from Dekapam which is a paradigm shift in itself. Mrs. Dimple was coordinating T2T on the World Environment Day in 2014 in the campus of Paschim Jonai Junior College, Dekapam, Jonai, Dhemaji. SPSPK organized a plantation drive with other activities jointly with Paschim Jonai Junior College, Dekapam M.E. School, Dekapam Girls’ M.E School, AASU Dekapam , Parivesh Nikakaran Group.

Trees Planted; Mango (Magnifera indica), Nahar (Mesua ferrea), Amla (Pyllanthus emblica), Neem (Azardirachta indica), Lemon, Devdaru (Cedrus deodara), Pine (Pinus), Guava (Psidium guajava), Jamun (Syzygium cumini) & Agar (Aquilaria mallacensis) . (Total of 51 Trees, planted).
Lakhya Morang sent a picture where saplings have grown up to trees laden with fruits & more importantly students those have even passed out continued caring & nurturing these trees. They have inherited these learning traits into new students & they have been celebrating World Environment Day every year & other days of great environmental significance too. This competition is rising among other schools too & it’s been a green festival in this particular block of Jonai, Dhemaji District on World Environment Day. This was the central purpose of T2T campaign that Trees are our ultimate teachers those preach us what exactly nature is all about.
Mrs. Dimple, National Coordinator, SPSPK thanks Respected Principal, Paschim Jonai Inter College, Teachers from college & different schools, AASU Dekapam, Parivesh Nikakaran Group & last but most fascinatinacheg & amazingly energetic ex-students & current Students.
Special thanks to Lakhya for sending this picture & reminding us how we sowed seedlings to care & nurture nature.
