How vulnerable are you to cybercrime? How can we ensure our digital safety on Internet in this new world of social networks & hacking?

In this fast-paced digital world where technology is omnipresent, it is important to embrace it. You have to set aside your fear of all that’s “tech” and take the effort to understand it and use it wisely.

How can you protect yourself against cybercrime?

Arming yourself against attacks on the Internet isn’t as difficult as you think. Layered security can help you protect your accounts.

  1. Two-factor authentication: a simple method of securing your accounts by adding two steps to the login process. This could include combinations like:
    1. Password & security question
    2. Password & OTP
    3. Password & biometrics

It is important to enable two-factor authentication on all your online accounts, from online banking to Gmail and Facebook.

  1. Online Resilience : the simple and common-place strategies to build your immunity against online attacks. Protecting yourself against online vulnerability includes knowing what sites are safe, avoiding storing data that can cause you harm if your device is hacked etc.
  2. Anti-virus Software: most people blame technology for being vulnerable. But like anything else in life, you need to install locks to protect outsiders and take adequate steps to ensure your safety. The easiest way to do this is to install anti-virus software on your device and protect it against hackers and malware.
  3. Smart sharing: simple precautions can help protect your moments on social media. It’s not wrong to share photos, but remember to monitor and control who can access them. Also watch what you share and avoid sharing anything that could damage your reputation or give data access to hackers.
  4. Safe transactions: it is important to avoid using public computers and open Wi-Fi while doing online transactions. You should also avoid using a device which you use for torrents and other downloading software which leave your device vulnerable to attacks.

Also important to avoid sharing important credentials and documents on social media to avoid the risk of identity theft.
