Not able to breathe properly? Inhaling toxins day & night? Worried about you and your family’s health?

Yes, these are the basic questions about living in Delhi in every delhite’s brain.

Air pollution is one of the most serious and dangerous issues of the World, which directly challenge to the global environment as well as the thread to the living beings.

Delhi is subjected frequently to high levels of total suspended particulates, with an annual mean concentration well-exceeding 600μg/m3.

The publication ‘Body Burden 2015: State of India’s Health’ said that climate change is leading to greater frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.

Comprehensively study of linkage between environment and health suggests that a number of public health catastrophes arising out of environmental reasons are staring people of India in the face.

Main sources of pollution in Delhi are vehicular pollution, a dust of building construction sites, industrial pollution, polluting cook stoves that cause indoor pollution and much more. A study says that death toll due to uncontrolled air pollution-related illnesses alone has increased worldwide by a whopping 300 percent in the last decade…

“…from 800,000 in the year 2000 to 3.2 million in 2012. In Delhi, which was named as the most polluted city in the world by WHO in 2014, air pollution is responsible for 10,000 to 30,000 annual deaths,” studies show.

Air pollution is one of the top 10 killers in the world and is the fifth leading cause of death in India.

“Air pollution results in about 6,20,000 premature deaths which are caused by stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, ischemic heart disease, lower respiratory infections and trachea, bronchus and lung cancer, among others,” Team Green Gaddi highlights the heightened vulnerability of the poor and calls for stringent actions and better solutions like Green Gaddi – a campaign to make driving ‘Go Green’.

“The way forward would be to reduce the source of air pollution and create more sources of generating oxygen mainly revamping our transportation systems and make moving vehicles into moving plantation sites where a vehicle can get oxygen generating species on their rooftop and thus creating more oxygen for all of us. ” Khushbu Rastogi, Director of Plan & Outreach – GreenGaddi

Climate change is leading to greater frequency and intensity of extreme weather events and simultaneously, India has seen an increase in vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria.

Green Gaddi suggestive ways to fight with pollution made by cars are:

‎‎1. Embrace inflation – Underinflated tyres can increase a car’s fuel consumption by as much as 6%.

  1. Attend to maintenance – A well-serviced car is likely to be much more economical than one that is poorly maintained.
  2. Be a smooth operator – Maintain a good distance from the car in front to avoid last-minute braking.
  3. Adapt green fuel vehicle – Use CNG/Electric or other low emission vehicles.
  4. One, two…skip a few – Skip gears when conditions allow.
  5. Be cool about air conditioning‎ – Switch it off if not required for a while.
  6. Switch off the engine in traffic. Keep it steady – Avoid speedy driving
  7. Share a ride or carpool.
  8. Walk/Use Bicycle for the shorter distance, it will save environment and pocket.
  9. GreenGaddi committed to slashing carbon emissions by more than half, through building renovations, renewable power, and efficient fleets.
  10. Join GreenGaddi initiative.

‎Makes the effort seem worthwhile, doesn’t it?‎

NASA studies indicate that 15 to 18 plants in 6-8 inch diameter pots will sufficiently improve the air in an 1800 square-foot residential home. This translates to approximately one large potted plant or two smaller potted plants about every 100 square feet. A typical houseplant leaf produces about 5 ml of oxygen per hour and a typical human needs about 50 liters of oxygen per hour.

About Green Gaddi

Team GreenGaddi advocates the solution alongside the deletion of reasons. We promote the concept of eco-driving whether it is driving eco-friendly low emission vehicles or follow green driving concepts.

One of the major suggestion is ‎planting saplings on the maximum available space in urban areas i.e. Vehicle Roof. Yes, it sure sounds weird or sometimes strange but this is feasible and just thinks the quantum of oxygen can be produced by this tiny step. Let’s join hands and say to you, #IamTheSolution
