Animation is one of the most exciting forms of storytelling. And the fact that now students have the opportunity to learn animation and continually explore their creativity, is heartening. Whether it’s stop-motion animation, motion graphics, or traditional pen and paper animation — the craft can fascinate and bring wonder to any subject.
Back in 2016, a few students from NID took their animated film on environmental refugees, Wade, to Wishberry, India’s best crowdfunding platform. They set a target of Rs. 4.5 Lakhs and within the first 15 minutes of going live, the students raised a Lakh. And in less than three days, they achieved their goal! 150 people backed the film with over Rs. 6 Lakhs, so that it could travel to various film festivals, and form a creative collaboration with Sandunes.
Stoked by the response, Wishberry has joined hands with National Institute of Design’s, Chitrakatha: International Student Animation Festival, to crowdfund animated student films from ‘Script2Screen’! The activity aims to encourage students take charge of their imagination and ideas, and pursue their awe-inspiring projects on their own terms!
