In the present time, distinguish between information and misinformation is becoming thin to thinner. Everyone is becoming the victim of these fake news including famous personalities like Anupam Kher, Arundhati Roy, missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed and Indian currency (GPS chip in 2000 note ).Raising concern towards this web of fake news, Veteran journalist Ravish Kumar said: ” In today’s era, the only truth that publishes in our newspaper is a date.” The fresh victim of fake news is the Bashirhat district of West Bengal. An altered image initiates the violence in the district and numbers of other altered images were used to fuel the violence. Remaining work of polarisation was done by the prejudiced media by running the hashtags like #HindusOnHateList and #HindusDontCount. Zee News ran a show and posted a video on YouTube titled, “West Bengal is not safe for Indians but heaven for Muslims?”. The situation becomes worst when media also reacts in this biased manner.  There are myriad of international and national cases where Fake news helps many to change their fates.The best example of this is the US presidential election. As per the new survey by Pew Research Center, most Americans suspect that made-up news is having an impact. About two-in-three U.S. adults (64%) say fabricated news stories cause a great deal of confusion about the basic facts of current issues and events.

In this Post-Truth era, We should need to be aware of the fake news and the propaganda and agenda behind it. If you see any news on your Facebook wall and Twitter, then before coming to conclusion do the fact-check on it. Google about that news or confirm it by some trusted news agency like PTI and ANI. Now some websites like Altnews.in, medialvigil and Debunked are doing the work to debunked the false news. Google and Facebook also start taking this menace of fake news seriously.In a blog post, Google said it had permanently banned nearly 200 publishers from its AdSense advertising network near the end of last year.On the same day, Facebook introduced changes to its Trending Topics feature — a part of the social network that some have blamed for spreading false information — to better promote reliable news articles.

We need to take this menace seriously, Otherwise, days are not too far when this famous saying of Mark Twain will become true:  “If you don’t read the newspaper then you are uninformed, If you do read the newspaper then you are misinformed.”
