Huge opportunity for young filmmakers with #BasAbBahutHoGaya Film Contest

~ First prize of Rs. 3 Lakh for a 2-minute video on gender violence ~

‘Bas Ab Bahut Ho Gaya- Enough Is Enough’ campaign led by the Population Foundation Of India is creating a lot of interest among college students with its filmmaking contest promising Rs 3 lakhs for the winner. The filmmaking contest was launched by actor Farhan Akhtar whose initiative MARD is a change partner in the campaign along with noted director Feroz Abbas Khan.

Reaching out to the college- going students, this film-making contest started on May 30th. However, winning this contest is not a cakewalk as the competition is tough and entries are pouring in from across the country.  The college-going students participating in this contest have to portray their understanding of gender-based violence.

“We are a young nation. It is extremely crucial to give the youth an opportunity and a platform to present their ideas on an issue which holds the women of this nation behind. We expect the best possible efforts from all the participants. With the entries, we are also expecting some feasible solutions to this issue from the young minds,” says Poonam Muttreja, Executive Director, Population Foundation Of India.

“We are a country which produces the maximum number of films annually in the world. We have the ability to showcase and the likelihood to learn things to a great extent from the audio-visual medium, with cinema being the leading medium. With this prize money, we expect maximum participation and better results,” says noted director Feroz Abbas Khan.

“We expect a lot of entries from across the country and since the jury members are prominent people from the industry, they’ll handpick the best films which will then be rewarded,” says Farhan Akhtar.

All the participants have to submit their films before August 24th. The first prize is Rs. 3 Lakh. While the 2nd and 3rd prizes are Rs. 2 Lakh and Rs. 1 Lakh respectively. Apart from the winners, there will be a special prize for the viewer’s choice award. All the winners will be awarded on 2nd October given the importance of the day in the fight against violence.
