PurpleFreedom Campaign For Unjustly Detained Prisoners

Khairatul Saidu Foundation has launched it’s very first ever campaign for the freedom of those who have been unjustly imprisoned. The PurpleFreedom, Let’s React Campaign 

 

According to the Khairatul Saidu Foundation, prisons might hold more innocents than criminals.

« New Data from the Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics suggests Nigerian Prison may hold more innocents than the guilty criminals.

« The reports, covering data from 2011 to 2015 shows that 72.5% of Nigeria’s total prison population are inmates serving time while awaiting trail & without being sentenced.

« The alarming figure highlights key flaws in Nigeria’s criminal justice system with proceedings often going on for years without conclusion.

 

« While a lawyer often cite a large number of cases being tried as a reason for long drawn-out trails, they charged inmates on the other side of the devide often spend years waiting to get convicted or win back their freedom.

« In one instance, an inmate accused of murder spent 16 years in a prison in Nigeria’s Southeast being tried.

 

Friends and Relatives of an unjustly detained prisoner tends to pass through stress and difficulty despite not being in Prison.

 

People from all around the World show their support for those who have been unjustly imprisoned by supporting the PurpleFreedom Campaign through displaying the Prisoners Foot and advocating for Purple Justice!
