“It was an honour to be part of the millions who walked for justice,” says Congress leader Dhiraj Deshmukh

Mumbai: Congress leader Dhiraj Deshmukh was one of the millions who travelled from different parts of Maharashtra to be a part of the Maratha Kranti Morcha in Mumbai. In the case of the young Congress leader, he travelled from Ekurga, his constituency in Latur to Mumbai in order to join the Morcha. He is quick to say that the movement is about people and not any political party and he is just one of the many demanding justice.

“We need capital punishment for the culprits of the Kopardi rape incident so that no man ever thinks of committing such a heinous crime.  This protest was iconic in the true sense as it didn’t unite the victims but the strong ones who had forgotten their strength for a while. It was the time when we realize that we have to stand for ourselves, our women and our future generations. It was the time for us to speak for our food producers and ensure that their rights are taken care of”, said Dhiraj Deshmukh while he spoke of his support to the Maratha Kranti Morcha.

Today was one of the most awaited days for the Maratha Community as the historic 58thMaratha Kranti Morcha took place. The giant march which started from Jijamata Udyaan and terminated at Azaad Maidan extended over kilometers. 15 demands that address the social, economic, educational and agrarian grievances of the caste that accounts for 32-35% of Maharashtra’s population were put forth with the silent protest.

As this protest is likely to be the last one after 57 protests in the past 1 year, the Maratha community all over the state awaits action from the Government.
