WHY IS THERE A LOW VOTER TURNOUT AMONG MILLENNIAL ? A MILLENNIAL TRIES TO EXPLAIN

“India has 407 million millennial as per a 2016 survey by Morgan Stanley. Yet, when it comes to exercising their right to vote  they shy away. Why does it happen? or rather how can we improve the situation?”

The problem is multi faceted. The millennial regard politics to be messy and dirty and hence shy away from it. An increased social media presence of the election commission along with ease of procurement of electoral ID can solve this problem. There must be an online mode of applying for the electoral ID cards.

The next  practical problem is that most of the millennial do not want to waste their time to go and stand in a queue, when they are unsure if their votes will even matter or not. It would be great if the election commission  can increase the number of voting counters in a particular city which will help people to save time and thus increase voter turnout. It would be great to develop a secure system where voting can be done online with the help of internet, but that might be too demanding a task to be done with such a huge voter bank, lack of internet facilities in interior places and technical glitches.
