Concerned on State Quotas of MBBS Central Pool SIKKIM

On the 13th of July 2017 counseling was held for mbbs/bds by the hrdd department of Sikkim. This was the first round of counseling and a total of 21 seats were displayed by the department. Six central pool seats (anticipated), 5 for rims imphal and the rest for smims gangtok. The top candidates of each category opted for central pool seats and were asked to wait for further information . However only three seats were sent by the central government. On the 28th of August counseling was held for the three seats leaving out three candidates. There has been no consolidation for the three candidates that were left out. This issue should be taken very seriously as 50 percent reduction has taken place in the mbbs central pool quota for our state. The final date for admission in mbbs college was 31st August and the three candidates who have been left out are under immense pressure. It’s very disappointing that even after securing top marks in their respective categories(central OBC, state OBC and SC) they have been put in this situation. As these events were unfolding we came to know that a single seat was later given out to one of the candidates without the knowledge of the other two candidates furthermore the mentioned candidate was last in line to receive a seat if and when the seats were made available. There is serious foul play and the matter needs to be highlighted and the one’s behind the scenes should be made to give reasons for their actions.

We have taken our grievances to the concerned ministry and even to the chief minister but this matter is yet to be solved.
