Start-up GuruQ’s new digital platform promises to make private tutor selection process hassle-free for students and parents

Key highlights:

Finding a good tutor was never an easy task. Reliability, track record, safety and quality concerns have always left parents asking around or scouring local newspapers and the Internet to find the right tutor for their children. Not anymore. Delhi based start-up, GuruQ has launched a unique digital integrated platform where students and parents can scout for tutors in their locality and make an informed choice based on past reviews and ratings for each tutor. They can pick reliable ‘GuruQ Certified’ tutor options for primary, secondary, higher secondary and undergraduate courses including CBSE, ICSE, GCSE and IB boards along with SAT, GMAT and GRE.

All GuruQ-certified tutors go through a 4-step rigorous teacher scrutiny process including a including a Proficiency Test, an online or offline Interview and a full background check conducted by external agencies thus ensuring students are entrusted in safe hands.

GuruQ stands out from the pack because it is India’s first platform where one can pick quality-certified and user-rated tutors. Moreover, parents and students also get to rate and review the tutors based on their personal experience. This can help other parents scouting for tutors make an informed decision after going through the reviews and the ratings put up by people who have already learned from the tutor. GuruQ also allows parents to evaluate tutors through automatically recorded online sessions so that the feedback can be used to enhance the entire learning ecosystem.

Said Mrs Sharda Sharma, a parent of a Class VIII student, who recently opted for GuruQ’s tutor services, “I had been looking for a good tutor for my son, but I have always been wary of depending on word of mouth or simply choosing through the Internet. With GuruQ, the process has been so much easier because I chose a tutor only after reading up on other people’s opinions and reviews. It becomes easier to trust a tutor who is pre-certified and reviewed by a team saving the hassle of doing a background check.”

GuruQ addresses the need for a single, simplified and cohesive ed-tech solution that provides both online and offline tutoring.

Students can leverage the freedom of working on subjects at their own time and line-up a comprehensive schedule. GuruQ also helps students manage timetables and assess progress.

Gaurav Singh, a Class IX student, who has been using GuruQ for some time now elaborates on this. “GuruQ has been of tremendous help to me because I get to choose if I want to take classes online or offline. Also, I get to pick from of a wide range of certified tutors with just a click. Most importantly, I have been able to manage and schedule my classes and send and receive assignments online.”

Singh makes a relevant point about online assignments – an important consideration especially for students from higher classes since it helps saving up on precious time enhancing productivity.

For parents who fret over their child’s development, GuruQ also offers a system where they can access progress reports of their children on a regular basis to keep a tab on the performance.

Minal Anand, Founder and CEO, GuruQ, an enterprising Finance major from Boston University believes that platforms like GuruQ help bring in a steadfastness in the whole tutor search. “We came up with the idea of GuruQ to provide a common platform where students and qualified tutors can meet and have access to unique tools that help organise classes, provide updates on various trends in education, and offer interaction with tutors. But most importantly, GuruQ is a far more secure alternative because all interactions are logged and recorded.”

It has already empanelled academicians from reputed institutes as its Advisory Board members who will help mentor tutors.

The company recently raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding from High Net Worth Individuals HNIs and has started operations in Delhi-NCR with robust plans to expand in other cities as well.
