Democracy has been regarded as an ideal form of government in which people are governed by their own elected representatives. It is a government of the people, for the people and by the people. It is a people’s government in which the voice of the people is supreme and where the laws are fashioned according to their wishes.
Every citizen of India, without any distinction based on grounds of Color, caste, creed, religion, property or sex has a right to vote in the election of legislators and to be elected as a legislator.
Dr. Ambedkar defines democracy as “a form and a method of Government whereby revolutionary changes in the economic and social life of the people are brought about without bloodshed”.
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar has explicitly stated the conditions which are very much necessary for the successful working of democracy.
Equality :
For the success of democracy the first and foremost necessary element is equality. He stated that there must be no glaring inequalities in the society
Two party system:
The second important condition for the successful working of democracy is the existence of strong opposition to the ruling majority. If there is no opposition party to the ruling party, the ruling party continues to favours only the castes, religion which it has been elected by . This leads to equality again.
Equality in Law and Administration:
As per recent news, the minorities are being targeted for anti-national activities, if any dalit raises voice against the atrocities, he is treated as anti-national and he is put behind bars.
Constitutional Morality :
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar said that, “A Constitution which contains legal provisions, is only skeleton. The flesh of the skeleton is to be found in what we call constitutional morality.”
No Tyranny of Majority:
There is always clash between majority and minority for superiority in present time.Superiority leads to failure of democracy.
Public conscience is the oneof essential condition for successful working of democracy.
Below are the failure of the democracy in country.
- A bridge between promise and performance is not strong as we think.
- We the people of the country have failed and still we are failing the democracy.
- The masses are illiterate, and they misuse the right to vote for the sake of money and power (for limited period) .This help capitalists to buy people by paying them money. Poor fellows for the sake of money, they blindly go with the flow. This is the major cause for the failure of democracy in India.
- Unless and until there is widespread education and enlightenment among the people, the idea of democracy is of no use.
- Rich people try to exploit the poor people of country, as the poor can afford the things which the rich people have like influences, money power.
- Caste ridden society has also given a blow to the healthy democratic system.
- Because of corrupt politician.
- Paid media, brainwashing propaganda, dynasty rule, hate speeches.
- Trying to impose their so called nationalism on others.
We can stop the failure of democracy of country by knowing our rights, duties, etc.
