Point Cook man wins Tattslotto twice — by mistake, becoming instant multi-millionaire

For most people winning Tattslotto is a once-in-a-lifetime dream. Not for a Point Cook man, whose simple mistake saw him win it twice.

The man in his 30s accidentally played his favourite numbers twice online in the weekend’s draw, netting himself two division one prizes of more than $1.3 million each.

“At first I thought ‘wow I’ve won $1.3 million’ so at first I was lying in bed shaking,” he said.

“But then after an hour or so I realised I hadn’t checked the rest of my tickets so I looked at the next one and to my surprise I found that I’d played the same game twice. “I wasn’t expecting to win once let alone twice.”

The man has pocketed just over $2.6 million from his error and plans to buy a home, a Ferrari, and take some time off work to travel and see the Seven Wonders of the World.

He has chosen to remain anonymous.

It is not the first time it has happened. Luck struck twice for a Melbourne woman who accidentally bought two Tattslotto tickets in a Saturday night draw in July, 2013.

The woman, in her 30s, won two division one prizes worth more than $400,000 each, winning $835,000 in total. Both winning tickets were purchased from separate newsagencies at Melbourne Central.

She said half of the winnings would pay off her mortgage.

“Half of that $835,000 will go straight towards the mortgage. I guess it’s a good thing we won twice so there’s some prize money left over.

It will be such a relief to be debt free.

I’ll have to go and ring hubby now to break the news.”
