Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh
Shimla can be reached by road from Delhi or Chandigarh. You can either take a car or bus. There are numerous bus options to choose from.
Things to do:
Kufri: The 2hrs drive to Kufri will give you a good view of Shimla and you will see how tiny little houses peek from the mountainous regions, which seem to hang precariously on the cliffs. On arriving at Kufri, you can either take a short hike to the Kufri temple or perch yourself upon a horseback to make it more comfortable.
Mall road: This is the primary shopping area of Shimla. This local market place is reachable either by taking a paid elevator or by climbing the necessary number of stairs. The Shimla Church is also situated here where you can pay a visit.
Jhakoo Hill hike: This hiking trail is through lush green forest and can be done in about half an hour’s time. The hike would lead you to an altitude of 2,455 metres, to find the Jhakoo Temple of Lord Hanuman. The main prize for the climb would be the breathtaking views of the Shivalik mountain range that is priceless.
Gaiety Theatre: This Gaiety Theatre was first functional in 1887. This Victorian art theatre has been well preserved ever since and its interiors are very grand as well. The Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex hosts a lot of cultural events and shows that is worth paying a visit.
Kalka-Shimla Mountain Railway ride: This toy train ride will give you a different experience and a good different at that! The entire 96 kilometre route is extremely scenic through 864 bridges and 102 tunnels.
Manali
On your journey uphill to Manali via Kullu, the Beas river will never leave your side. This beautiful but dangerous river will continue to swirl and turn give you spectacular views.
Things to do:
Adventure sports: From ziplining, paragliding, to white water rafting, Manali will cater to the adventurous side of the tourists.
Hadimba temple: This ancient temple is of the Devil Goddess Hadimba. Set amidst nature and with amazing views, the local people have deep faith in this goddess.
Vashista Kund: This is a hot water spring situated in the cold surroundings and is very enjoyable and relaxing.
Rohtang Pass: The Rohtang pass is snow covered all year round and guarantees the most spectacular views in this state. Take a drive to Rohtang valley and trek up the mountains post that. Don`t miss skiing if you love snow and its related adventures.
Solang valley: Beautiful views of the distant snowcapped mountains. The local eateries will give you some comfort food to make the sight-seeing better.
Old Manali: Tall eucalyptus trees, winding roads and little local eateries with cozy market places are what describe the parts of old manali. Not forget the gurgling sound of the river that constantly keeps you company in Manali.
