A number of brutal rape cases have surfaced from the rural areas of Odisha in the last few weeks. Most of these cases go unnoticed or are ignored for reasons innumerable and, at times, the victims are either forcibly silenced or do not fight back due to lack of a conducive environment. On a personal note, #MeToo would be acknowledged in the true sense only when women from the extreme interior parts of this country speak of their experiences. Nevertheless, #MeToo with a hope that it shifts responsibility on the people who bear the blame and less on victims especially of those whose sufferings remain under the wraps.
