Ganga Kumari first Transgender constable in Rajasthan Police

After fighting two years long legal battle in High Court, finally Ganga Kumari became Rajasthan’s first transgender Police Constable.

Hail from Jalore district of Rajasthan 24 years old Ganga faced many troubles but her hard work paid off & on Monday Justice Dinesh Mehta announced the judgement in favour of Ganga and directed Rajasthan Police to appoint her immediately. She will be joining Rajasthan Police as a Constable today.

According to a report of Indian Express, Ganga’s counsel Rituraj Singh informed that it was for the first time that a transgender participated in police recruitment exams and stood successful. “But given the rules for appointment, the department was in confusion, and in spite of passing the examination, Kumari was not appointed as constable,” said Singh.

However, this is the first time in Rajasthan and third time in India when a transgender woman has been appointed at a government position.
