I was in class 6 when I was dropped out of coaching classes due to the lack of money, but I never gave up. I wanted to fight poverty by educating myself, even though it looked like a hard task.
Today, I am going to tell you about a person who is helping children in Bihar gain education and achieve their dreams. Last week, on Children’s Day, I got to interact with Rajesh Kumar Suman via his friend Preetam Sahi. Rajesh Kumar Suman is the man who has bought a great change in Bihar’s educational sector.
Today, everyone is busy with their own lives and trying to fulfil their dreams, rather than think about the society. But, there are some people who want to help society and are engaged in their campaign silently for the betterment of the society. One such person is Rajesh Kumar Suman.
Influenced by the Indian government’s ambitious project “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” campaign, he founded the BSS club through which free educational institution is provided to women. In 2008, students were given education across both genders, but influenced by the “Beti Bachao-Beti Padho Abhiyan” he decided to set up a separate group for the girl child.
Rajesh Kumar Suman is originally from Dharha of the Rosra Block in Samastipur district, Bihar. He belongs to a middle-class family and also held a job in the Foreign Ministry, but has given that up to focus on his cause.
Suman says that “I do not like to be lost in my pleasures. How can we let our daughters not get a chance at an education? After all, where is our society going? Why do not we think about those who are marginalized? Very few people are coming out to improve the lives of our daughters. I believe it is necessary to fix the present for a better future. And due to this current education, it will change. That’s why I am teaching the daughters of the society. I take classes morning and evening.”
Rajesh also says that, “When I started teaching in BSS Club, in 2008, many people said that build it as an NGO, and then do the work. But I refused. I believe that the service can be done in any form.”
Right now, more than 300 students are currently studying there. Besides them, he has impacted thousands of students in the past, and most of them are now placed in government jobs The most interesting part is that he is not taking a single penny from any students. I was very surprised when I met people who were inspired by him and started teaching themselves too.
I also got a chance to interact with his students, when I asked them about their plans and discussed social entrepreneurship. They told me that, they would like to serve their state in the best possible way. “It doesn’t matter it’s education or painting.”
