Aftermath of the Gujarat Elections

BJP’s victory, with a narrower margin than before, is a call for introspection for the party regarding its policies for the last two decades in Gujarat.

Despite a slight increase in vote percentage, BJP can’t deny the ire present in public. Gujarat campaign has seen lowest levels of politics from both sides.Rahul was seen playing Soft Hindutva card away from party image of secularism, Mani Shankar Ayyer pronunciation of “neech” for PM Modi or Modi trying identity politics and even taking it to an extent that “Pakistan trying to intervene in our state Election” is incongruous remark.

Hardik, Alpesh and Jignesh trio has done good for Congress in Gujarat they were able to mobilise the anger in rural population which to a larger extinct benefited Congress. Both Alpesh Thakor and Jignesh Mevaani managed to win their seats. While congress has escaped to the victory but results has append Rahul image with a politician that can be trusted upon. Rahul Gandhi who were sidelined and joked most of the time has proven his potential of sworn-in president for party. With party called “Moral Victory” in Gujarat congress has shown its comeback after 2014 General Election. Rahul has to remain full time politican to inbuilt trust for himself in public and has to forget his foreign vacation.

With BJP ruling in 19 states and congress in 5 states it is challenging for Congress to save it currently ruling states(Karnataka, Meghalaya and Mizoram) in a way BJP gaining its grounds over last few elections in counrty. Similarly, BJP has to retain its current three states (Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan)  overcoming its anti-incumbencies.

Congress has to come with their vision because no party has been mandated to power mearly by criticising the ruling dispensation be it communist parties vision for equality or Indra Gandhi’s Garibi hatao slogan. The upcoming elections in 8 states will pave the road for 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
