Is Aadhar Helpful Or Life-Threatening?

Unique Identification Authority Of India (UIDAI) is mandated to issue an easily verifiable 12 digit random number as a Unique Identity, that is, Aadhar card.

Aadhar card was designed to provide a 12 digit unique identification to every Indian, which is easily verifiable. It is designed to help and to trace easily.

In every exam one can submit their Aadhar as their identity, people are being asked to link their Aadhar cards to bank accounts and you can even provide your Aadhar number to have a PAN card. Sim cards and hotel rooms are also available by providing Aadhar details. Basically, Aadhar seems to be very helpful, but at the same time, it is quite stressful.

Recently, in Madhya Pradesh when exams for Patwari were being held, a shocking incident came to my notice. There were two students who were denied entry to give the exam since their fingers were not scanned. However, both the students did not have palms. But the biometric device scanned fingers and thumbs, which the students did not have. I also gave the same exam and the biometric was taken thrice, so it is my personal experience. The students were denied entry because they didn’t have fingers and thumbs. This is quite painful.

In Haryana, Shakuntala Devi, a Kargil War martyr’s wife, was allegedly denied medical care as she had forgotten to bring her Aadhar card with her. Apparently, the hospital management denied her treatment till she would show her Aadhar card. Unfortunately, she passed away. A girl from Jharkhand apparently died of starvation because her family’s ration was allegedly denied because of no Aadhar link.

There are many such stories. But what I’m trying to say is that how could Aadhar be helpful, if not having it can cost one their life? Having an Aadhar card may be helpful to me, but what’s the point of having it if not possessing it is causing so much stress, and in some cases, even death.
