‘A Party That Has Become So Arrogant – It Has To Be Defeated’: Jignesh Mevani

A man dressed in white speaking on a microphone.

Jignesh Mevani, who started his political career with a lot of enthusiasm and with an agenda of change, has won his first electoral victory from Vadgam constituency in the recently concluded Gujarat Assembly elections. His closest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Chakravarti Vijaykumar Harkhabhai, was about 20,000 votes behind him.

Rising to prominence as a face of Dalit politics, Mevani founded his career in electoral politics on an anti-BJP plank. Calling the BJP’s Gujarat Model a fraud, he denounces the party as sectarian. In his opinion, it is time that the country’s reigns are in the hands of a young leader and young people start participating in politics.

Mevani, who dreams of an inclusive country, spoke to Youth Ki Awaaz before the elections on his issues, goals, and politics in Gujarat, where he also expresses his opinion on ‘love jihad’ and the theory of a Hindu rashtra. Watch the video below:
