Chief Minister Sangma Lays Foundation for Ampati Engineering College

Dr. Mukul Sangma, the CM of Meghalaya, was happy to lay the foundation of the first ever engineering college at Ampati, in the South West Garo Hills. The engineering college would be the second of its kind in Meghalaya and the base of the college had been laid in Kebolpara, located about 4 kms away from Ampati. The Minister of Education, Deborah C Marak was also present at the event. The CM stated that funds of Rs 41 crore has been approved for establishing the college and that after its completion, the college would open doors of opportunity for the youngsters of the region, who until now had to consider relocating to other areas of the state or even outside the state, to pursue their higher education.

He also stated that since Meghalaya was a developing state, it had many issues that were yet to be addressed but his government was trying its best to resolve them one after another like the access to basic amenities or the construction of roads He stated that Meghalaya was going to celebrate its being a state for 50 years in five years time and now was a good time to assess the areas that still need to be worked on. Of which, the improvement of educational facilities in the state were of paramount importance.

Dr. Sangma also made an inspiring speech at the event where he expressed that it was important to train and educate the youngsters of the state as much as possible because that is where the real strength of an region lies- in the hands of responsible youngsters. He also added that untrained youth were also a liability to the society and it was important to tap in their potential and hone their talents at the right time so that they can make valuable contribution to the society. And it was up to the government to make this possible, by creating means of providing scope for education equally and making them able to compete at a national level.

Doctor Sangma also took the opportunity to confirm the foundation of the Williamson Technical University in Tura and the College of Science and Commerce in Mahendraganj, that would be a huge leap forward to educating the youth. He stressed that it was time that proxy teaching was done away with and that students should get an opportunity to learn from experts who would now find an institution to spread their knowledge.
