Hollywood Clapper Board: Hollywood – it has become something that is very inventable that we just have to talk about it. Before you go really deep into this topic ask yourself this; what is a clapperboard? A clapperboard is a device used in filmmaking and video production (or anything in this field) to assist in synchronizing of picture and sound and to designate and mark the various scenes and takes as they are filmed and audio-recorded.
It can also be referred to as clapper, clacker, slate, slate board and so on. Now that you already know the meaning of a clapperboard, you can simply put and say a Hollywood clapperboards is a clapboard used when producing Hollywood movies.
Purpose of Hollywood Clapperboard
It is of great importance to know the main purposes that Hollywood clapper boards serve. At the beginning of every shot/take, once the camera is rolling, the camera waits until the operator has the shot in focus and “marks” it by snapping the top of the board. The clapboard serves two main purposes.
- During The Time of Production: The visual and the audio is captured separately. The point of the clapboard is so that the editor can synchronize the sound of the clapboard on the audio track, they match it to the visual of the instant clapper snaps on the board. The camera loader is typically responsible for operating the clapboard.
- During Post-production: When sorting through all the footage and choosing which shots to use, the editor needs information about the particular take so that they know what shot they are looking at. The information conveyed on a clapboard include, take a number, which scene, date, which camera roll, director’s name and of course the name of the project.
Custom Clapperboard: Custom clapperboards are those clapboards that have been made and customized or simply put, modified and designed by the owner or the company that is going to use it. It is also used in film production but it is very different from the normal clapboards or Hollywood clapboards, but they all serve similar purposes which include; Audio/Video synchronization, video recording, etc.
The custom clapper board includes company name & company logo which you will not find on the ordinary clapper boards or Hollywood clapperboard. But the custom clapper board also includes director’s name, a name of the project and all order things you find on a clapperboard.
Components of Custom Clapperboards
The components that appear on a custom clapperboards is relative, that is, the components that are on it depends on the company that owns it, but most custom clapper boards include the following information;
- Company Name
- Company Logo
- Director’s Name
- Name of the project
- Date, etc.
Similarities between Custom Clapperboards & Hollywood Clapperboards
Hollywood clapper boards and custom clapper boards usually share the following information;
- Director’s Name
- Name of the project
- Date of the project, and
- They are both used for filmmaking
Note: The custom clapperboard and Hollywood clapper board can be used interchangeably, that is, the custom clapper board can be used for Hollywood film shot.
